Our Club marched in the Oldham County Days
Parade on Saturday July 17th
wearing our gold vests. Lion Koss Kinser, arranged
for an old Durant truck to lead our Group. Five Members rode on the truck, while
others walked passing out candy. The parade started at the Immaculate Conception
Church at 9:30AM and end at the edge of the vendor booth area. Lion Bob
Pace and Lions major Wheat stayed to promote the South Oldham Lions Festival at
the event. Several vendors who were there have signed up for our 9/11
Festival.

The slate of
Officers were approved by the membership and were installed at the June 22nd
meeting at the Pewee Valley Presbyterian Church. The Ladies' Night meeting
is normally held outside at Lion Ted Merhoff's home but instead was held at the
church because of the 90 degree heat.
There were 25
Lions plus 25 guests in attendance. The guest were the spouses or special
friends of the attending Lions plus PDG John Horton and his wife Lion Darlene
Horton.
A special
presentation was
made by guest Lion Darlene Horton. She displayed and talked about an antique
handmade quilt that had been in her family for over 100 years. But her talk was
really not about the quilt, except for its being an excellent metaphor for a
successful Lions Club. She described all the effort, the varieties of fabrics,
the strong threads and dedicated craftsmanship that went into making the quilt
and how all these elements each played an important role in why the quilt had
survived so many years. Many of these same attributes, Darlene postulated, are
present in a successful, long lasting and community-serving Lions Club.
Installation

Special Meeting
Our
first meeting of the month on 5/11/2010 will be held in the Lions Den at
Peggy Baker Park. For 2010 the South Oldham Lions has sponsored 10
Little League teams at Peggy Baker Park on Abbott Ln.
Please
be alerted of the very special meeting at the Peggy Baker Park in the Lions Den
at 6:45 PM. The Little League will be entertainment as well as the special meal
and program planned for the membership meeting.
Coach
Steve Carter SOHS will be the guest speaker for this meeting.
Lions, a
note to remember for those don't want too, or can't walk very far --- games
start at 5:30, so why not come early and watch a little baseball, and get a
closer parking space.
REMEMBER
TO wear your Lion's vest. For those few who need to park closer we have
permission for 3 or 4 cars to park on the right side of the road to the "Lion's
Den", leaving enough room for Dustin to get in and others to pass, so that you
do not have to walk too far. I'm still trying to get confirmation from as
many of our coaches as possible who will be able to join us so that I can advise
Dustin on how many extra will be eating with us. The many rainouts last week has
many of them doing make up games that will keep them from being able to attend.
I'm attaching an updated listing of our teams and coaches so that you can
acknowledge them if you get a chance ----- they are all prospects to become
future LIONS.
Thanks
Tom Price

The
South Oldham Lions Club has over the years continued to sponsor and support the
Mets
team with the
South Oldham
Little League. Most recently, an
early 2009
proposal
was initiated by Lion
Tom Price and approved by the South Oldham Lions Club to give greater support to
the many young families and children who are a part of the South Oldham Little
League. His efforts and our increased involvement has developed into a
renewed commitment to the SOLL which has prompted our club to make a
considerable
financial contribution for
the new “Multi-purpose” building at Peggy Baker Park where many ball games are
played each year. This building will be called “The Lions Den”.
It is another example of our dedication to give
financial support for a needed facility in our community, especially for
these young families and their children who are the future of our county and our
club.
