The Kentucky flag was adopted in 1918 and consists of the Seal of the Commonwealth, encircled by a wreath of goldenrod, on a field of navy blue. The first Kentucky flags were designed and made by Jessie Cox, a Frankfort art teacher.

South Oldham Little League

The SOLC has sponsored a Little League team for many years so our commitment to our youth is ongoing with the belief that the involvement of our youth in sports activities is important in that many life lessons are learned.  In 2009 the SOLC took a more pro-active interest in our local teams  The club made a gift of $5,000 to the South Oldham Little League for the construction of a building at Harold Baker Field at Peggy Baker Park.  The SOLC further pledged an additional gift of $1,000 annually to support the Little League and sponsor our teams.

Below is the list of our sponsorships of South Oldham Little League teams at Harold Baker Field and our commitment to the park infrastructure.  The Harold Baker field is operated and maintained by the South Oldham Little League.

  • 2009 - A major donation of $5000 for "The Lions Den" building and one team

  • 2010 - A donation  of $1000 and sponsorship of 8 teams:

South Oldham Little League…. Recently, “Mr. Lion” visited with two Teams we sponsor. The Tigers (L) and Cardinals (R). South Oldham Lions is printed on the back of their shirts. Mr. Lion (Lion Price) created lots of fun and excitement for the children and parents, while Lion McCarson acted as his handler and trainer.

It' is our goal to continue to support South Oldham Little League and the youngsters that play ball at Harold Baker Field.  To read more about our donation and it's importance to the South Oldham Little League click and read the article on the Oldham Era's website date 7/15/09.

 

With the help of VisionWorks LLC we are currently planning a festival in Crestwood for Sept 9th and 10th on the the Maples property on Hwy 22 just west of Dairy Queen.  We are going to use money made at our Crestwood Festival to continue our support for the South Oldham Little League.

Oldham County Facts

Oldham County, the 74th Kentucky county formed in December 1823, was named for Colonel William Oldham, a Revolutionary War officer from Jefferson County.  Oldham County, largely rural, is located in north central Kentucky, part of the outer bluegrass region, along the Ohio River.  Oldham county has a land area of 189 square miles, with cities - La Grange, Crestwood, Goshen, Pewee Valley, Ballardsville, Buckner, River Bluff, Park Lake, and Orchard Grass Hills.  La Grange was established as the county seat in 1838.
